This year we are highlighting the work of documentary filmmaker and Gemini nominee, Lawrence Jackman who has worked on several award-winning dramas and documentaries and has a long-standing association with the National Film Board of Canada. We are delighted to screen his latest film How does it feel, in the newly renovated Mady Centre for the Performing Arts.
Larry Jackman wrote, edited and directed How does it feel, a film which captures and inspires audiences everywhere by allowing us a glimpse into the heart and soul of Kazumi, a man who very much wants to sing.
Like many people, Kazumi was daunted by the idea of singing in public. But at 58, he has decided to use his awe-inspiring singing voice to channel his cerebral palsy (CP). As Kazumi draws from his exuberant, poignant and painful experiences, performer and teacher Fides Krucker guides him to embrace his inner artist. Kazumi's one-man show features songs like Smokey Robinson's “Tracks of my Tears,” which take on new and unexpected meaning in this moving account of self-discovery and transformation through the power of song.
Once again the Director's Brunch will begin with a delicious hot buffet style brunch, prepared by Catering by Colin. Both the director, Laurence Jackman, and the central character in the documentary, Kazumi, will be on hand to talk about the film and answer any questions you might have about it. The film will be shown following
the Brunch.
